The Men’s Project has been conceived in an effort to review forms of masculine identity and to engage gender equality though working with groups of men. This project aims to help change the perception of equal rights particularly within the Palestinian community in Israel. WAV believes that in order to work towards equal rights for women, the perception men hold of women in our society must change.
The two focus groups held for the project working with men has contributed largely in establishing the first research to be done around the "Masculinity Insights within the Palestinian Community in Israel". The research is available to serve as a reference to outside seekers for such study. As WAV was the first and only organization to initiate such project and to involve the men of our society with our feminist ideology and women's issues that intern will bring tremendous change.
The research has enabled us to identify the priorities for continuation with working with men's groups. A set of workshops have been taking place among men professionals and men guides within influential institutions; the issues of gender roles and its perceptions has already been discussed in these workshops. Among the participating institutions are the ones related to human rights and active in community projects. Involving the whole society including men in our pursuit to achieving equality between men and women is the basis of this project, where involving influential bodies and influential figures will create a strong foundation for project affectivity while continuing with the project. The integration of awareness about the perceptions of masculinity and understanding the implication of gender roles, based on the scientific facts per the mentioned above study conducted by WAV, will lead to raising awareness of the public on the implication of the existing gender roles and will pave the way towards gender equity.
